UCP 2026-08-25: what online stores should verify

A protocol update, not an automatic upgrade
The official UCP announcement describes independent capability versioning, structural changes for multiple commerce sectors, 3-D Secure 2 improvements, and structured request constraints. Merchants should distinguish a published protocol release from support by a particular platform or AI assistant.
Check discovery endpoints and manifests, advertised versions, schema validation, locale and currency handling, product variants and inventory. Test negative cases: unavailable items, invalid checkout parameters, and unsupported payment methods. Keep production changes gated behind integration tests.
Fondouk's published materials describe its earlier implementation; support for newer revisions must be independently verified. A newer UCP specification does not mean that every store must upgrade immediately.
